Academy Awards
The freshman Academy started a new tradition called Academy Awards which is a reward program to celebrate the successes of our freshmen, the Class of 2012. Principal, Greg Bell, pairs up teachers to give their students awards for highest average, most improved academic, most improved attitude, student of the month, citizenship, and attendance. The Ceremony is held once a month in the lecture hall during x-time. As Bell says, "Research shows that when students are recognized by their positive behaviors, then the positive behavior will be repeated. It improves the climate of the school and a way to thank students who do things right”. Science teacher Jerry Baxter said this about the Awards, "The Academy Awards is a great concept. The idea is to bring freshmen in and let them experience high school without some of the pressure brought on by the upperclassmen."
