| 2009-2010 Springfield High School National Honor Society Club |
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. Established in 1921, it is more than just an honor roll. NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. Charter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Sponsors: Mrs. Finley and Mrs. Tyson
Requirements: Membership is by invitation only based on a vote by the SHS faculty council. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher, complete at least 4 honors classes in two different subject areas, and complete at least 10 hours of community service work a year. Dues are a one time payment of $10. New members are selected from the juniors and senior classes each April.

In the past projects have included participating in Read Across America at Bransford Elementary, assisting local elementary school teachers, helping with landscaping at SHS, organizing social events at local nursing homes, and assisting with library inventory at SHS.
