Robertson County Schools Expect Success!

P.R.I.D.E. Meeting Minutes

August 27, 2009

Freda Herndon opened the meeting. Our officers were introduced. President-Freda Herndon, Vice-President-Nick Harrington, Secretary-Karen Kritsch, Volunteer/Event Coordinator-Karron Binkley. Jamie Clark was nominated for and voted in as Treasurer.

Pep Rally on the Square was a very successful event. SHS was represented well and our students received many compliments for their behavior and appearance. We are very PROUD of them!

The Freshman Academy recently hosted Good Morning Robertson County at the Chamber of Commerce. They, too, were highly complimented for their representation of SHS.

Currently, we have approximately $1,200.00 in our checking account. We will spend a little bit of money on homecoming week by purchasing some decorations to line 5th Avenue with pompoms and possibly to make some signs and/or banners to display in business windows up town. Jamie Clark volunteered to be in charge of decorating. If you would like to help her, please let me know and I will forward your e-mail to her.

P.R.I.D.E. has a link on the SHS website. We are currently working on updating and maintaining the site so that parents can have timely information on activities, news, etc…

Homecoming will be September 25, 2009. The theme for the week will be “Sports”. Each day will represent a different sport, culminating on Friday with FOOTBALL!  It should be a really fun, spirit-filled week. Hopefully, this theme will allow all students to participate without having to go to a lot of trouble and/or expense.

October 30, 2009 is the last home game and will also be Senior night.

National Education Week is November 16 -20. P.R.I.D.E. typically chooses a morning and provides the teachers/staff with breakfast. There will be more information coming via e-mail on that event.

Also, the Black and White Ball will be held at the Armory, late in the semester. I do not have the exact date for that either, but I will let everyone know by e-mail. P.R.I.D.E. provides food and drinks for this event. The Ball is sponsored by Student Council. The proceeds from the dance will go to a local charity.

We will also sponsor a Christmas tree in the lobby this year. We did so last year and it was beautiful. Hopefully, the tree will be up by the first week of December.

Parent/teacher conference will be on September 17, 2009, from noon-7pm. That is a student holiday.

There will be six days during the school year when the students are dismissed an hour early. This is an opportunity for teachers to collaborate with one another by grade-level, subject/department matter, etc….The first date is September 2, 2009.

Current enrollment at SHS is 1,086 students!

P.R.I.D.E. is hoping to have all three Boyce Smith Field ticket booths painted before 9/11/2009. Lee’s has been kind enough to donate the paint. Please thank Lisa and Jerry Duncan when you are doing business at Lee’s the next time! Donna Morton is coordinating this effort and is tentatively planning a paint session on Monday, September 7 (Labor Day) from 9 a.m. to noon. More information will come in a separate e-mail on this effort, but with 10 to 12 volunteers this will be a quick project with a big impact. (We are also checking with the SHS Quarterback Club and SMS to make sure we are not duplicating any of their planned efforts.)

If you were unable to make the meeting, please try to make our next one. I will continue to keep you posted through e-mails.
